POSITION TITLE: Industrial-Organizational Psychology Assistant Professor

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: 

The Psychology Department at Sacramento State has 29 tenure-track faculty as well as multiple lecturers who serve more than 1,400 undergraduate majors and more than 50 graduate students. The Psychology Department features individual faculty research space, a psychological/behavioral services clinic, computer labs, technical/instructional support, and a small animal vivarium. The Psychology Department has a strong and ongoing relationship with the university’s Community Engagement Center and Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as multiple local schools and community partners. Through teaching, scholarship, and service we promote human equity, health and well-being, effective functioning, and respect for diversity. Our undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in the discipline of psychology, as well as to provide a strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in psychology. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelor of Science degree. In addition to the undergraduate major, the Psychology Department offers an undergraduate certificate in behavior analysis and master's programs in applied behavior analysis, general psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology.

The Psychology Department is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, consisting of 11 academic departments, four independent and interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes.  The College is a congenial and cohesive unit both academically and administratively.

POSITION DETAILS: 

This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in Psychology beginning in the Fall 2025 semester.

The classification annual salary range for this position is $71,100 - $151,128; the anticipated annual starting salary is $76,884. Salary will be dependent upon CSU system-wide ranges, qualifications, and professional experience.

As a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and awardee of the Seal of Excelencia certification, Sacramento State is hiring a cohort of faculty who will support our commitment to Latinx/e student success during the 2024-25 tenure-track hiring cycle. We are looking for teacher/scholars who have an established commitment to teaching, research, and/or service in and with the Latinx/e community. Successful candidates will have demonstrated two or more of the four Latinx/e Student Success Cohort Hire criteria (see Required Qualifications below).

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Demonstrate a genuine interest in high quality teaching and mentoring of a diverse body of students.
  2. Teach undergraduate and graduate industrial-organizational psychology courses as well as other courses within their area of expertise, with emphasis on quality and inclusivity.  
  3. Develop a focused and productive program of research in industrial and/or organizational psychology that demonstrates inclusivity in the involvement of students and respect for diversity in the content and/or focus of the research topics.
  4. Participate in ongoing discussions regarding the industrial and organizational psychology curriculum at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  5. Supervise Master’s level students in industrial-organizational psychology.
  6. Provide advising to a diverse body of undergraduate Psychology majors from a variety of backgrounds.
  7. Provide service to the department, college, University, and community.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ph.D. from an accredited university with a research and teaching focus in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, with specific subdiscipline open. ABD applicants will be considered.  If ABD, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by January 2025.
  2. Evidence of a developing program of scholarship and research in the psychological study of work-related topics.
  3. Interest in contributing to development of the Industrial-Organizational Psychology master's program and supervision of graduate students.
  4. Evidence of high-quality teaching and/or mentoring a diverse student body, including Latinx/e students.
  5. Demonstrated history of engaging in professional learning on supporting diverse communities, including the Latinx/e community.
  6. Ability to work collegially in a multicultural environment.

Latinx/e Student Success Cohort criteria (demonstrate two or more of the following):

  • Excellence in teaching Latinx/e students;
  • Effective service (e.g., advising, mentoring) to Latinx/e students;
  • Research, scholarship, and/or creative artistic expression focused on the Latinx/e community;
  • Knowledge (professional background and/or training experiences) that advances our institutional commitment to Latinx/e student success.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Teaching experience in industrial and/or organizational psychology courses at the college level.
  2. Interest in teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in industrial psychology, psychological testing, and talent management.
  3. Training and experience in using a wide variety of teaching methodologies and perspectives that integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues in diverse communities, especially the Latinx/e community.
  4. Demonstrated ability or interest in high impact teaching practices which connect students and the community, such as service learning, curricular community-engaged learning, and/or academic internships.
  5. Demonstrated ability or interest in conducting research in partnership with local community organizations, government agencies, or private organizations.

  • Unofficial transcripts of all graduate work (official transcripts required if invited for an interview);

  • Portfolio of Research Experience - Evidence of research experience (e.g., reprints, preprints, grant applications, etc.)

  • Teaching Philosophy - A statement of teaching philosophy/interests addressing preparation to teach and mentor at the college-level and to incorporate diverse perspectives across all courses taught. If applicable, include a table listing teaching experience with a column for each of the following: (a) title and number of each course taught, (b) the semester and year you taught the course, (c) the name of the institution where you taught the course, (d) the approximate number of students enrolled in the course, (e) your role in the course (e.g., instructor of record, teaching assistant, etc.), (f) the course format (e.g., traditional, hybrid, online), and (g) the level of the course (e.g., undergraduate or graduate);

  • Teaching Effectiveness - Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations of teaching, sample course materials and/or evidence of relevant training and experiences, etc.);

  • Scholarly Research - A statement of research interests;
